Tutorials <strong><em>(Due 4\/26)<\/em><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>In class, we\/you should have already gone over these two simple tutorials:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>10-minute &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/learn.unity.com\/tutorial\/exploring-the-editor-layout?uv=2019.4#\">Exploring the Editor<\/a>&#8221; tutorial<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=E6A4WvsDeLE\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">17 minute tutorial &#8211; uses Unity 2019.4<\/span><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We will now go through an in-depth tutorial produced by \u201cLinkedIn Learning\u201d (formerly Lynda.com). That\u2019s \u201call\u201d you have to do, but:<\/li>\n<li><em><strong>I want receipts<\/strong><\/em>. For every section of this tutorial, take a screenshot of your work in Unity. Post these screenshots into a long blog post entitled <em>nickname-UnityEssentials,\u00a0<\/em>with the Category<em>\u00a009-UnityEssentials.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em><strong>NOTE<\/strong><\/em>: It&#8217;s possible that the \u201cMeasured Material Library\u201d asset (required by this tutorial) may have moved, and is now located here: <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/Unity-Technologies\/MeasuredMaterialLibraryHDRP\">https:\/\/github.com\/Unity-Technologies\/MeasuredMaterialLibraryHDRP<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>2. Viewing: Phazero\u2019s 2019 Eyeo Lecture <em><strong>(Due 4\/26)<\/strong><\/em><\/h3>\n<p>Game artist Christina \u2018Phazero\u2019 Curlee discusses how their arts background informs and weaves itself into their game design process in this\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/vimeo.com\/354276190\">40-minute lecture from the 2019 Eyeo Festival<\/a>. Their personal narrative gives a good idea about what a motivated person can achieve after 3 years of study in the medium. Please watch this video and, in a blog post entitled\u00a0<em>nickname-PhazeroVideo<\/em>, categorized <em>09-Viewing<\/em>, write a sentence about something that you appreciated from it.<\/p>\n<p><em>Phazero\u2019s games explore emotional experiences, marginalized identities, \u201cdigital consciousness\u201d and video games as art practice. Their current project, Artifacts is a game experience about childhood neglect, coping, and what it means to be an adult that has learned to live comfortably with trauma.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Eyeo 2019 - Christina Phazero Curlee\" src=\"https:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/354276190?dnt=1&amp;app_id=122963\" width=\"840\" height=\"473\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"autoplay; fullscreen; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>3. Walkable Environment <em><strong>(Due 5\/5) <\/strong><\/em><\/h3>\n<p>Build a walkable environment inside of Unity out of imported and built 3d models, with lighting, sound, and some interaction. Make a space that captures a mood or that contains surprises. Make a place that feels valuable to hang out in and explore. Publish your environment using WebGL on Itch.io.<\/p>\n<p>Connie has provided a Unity template project that you should probably use to get started: <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.courses.art.cmu.edu\/2021s\/60210a\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/60210-Test-Project.zip\">60210 Test Project<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Now: In a blog post ,<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Write<\/strong> a paragraph or two about your project. Cite inspirations, etc.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Read<\/strong>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/learn.unity.com\/tutorial\/working-with-the-unity-recorder-2019-3#\">here about how to use the Unity Recorder<\/a>, an Editor-only tool that can be used to record trailers for your game, instructional videos for non-game projects, or for filmmaking.
